Amy Richards was unemployed and receiving Universal Credit when she discovered the Gateway to Construction programme through a Facebook post. Funded by the Tees Valley Mayor and Combined Authority and delivered in partnership with Seymour Skills Academy, the five-week course provided a valuable entry point into the construction industry.
Throughout the programme, Amy gained practical experience with plant and machinery, training on an 11-acre construction site. She received tailored support and earned industry-recognised qualifications, including NRASWA Streetworks, a CSCS Green Card, and NPORS certifications for various machinery.
Upon completing the course, Amy secured a full-time role as a General Operative with Seymour Civil Engineering. She later advanced to her dream position as a Plant Instructor at Seymour Skills Academy.
The programme not only equipped Amy with essential technical skills but also boosted her confidence and provided a clear career path. Amy took the step to be self employed and now instructs at Seymour Skills Academy and across the North East.
