Building Careers, Gaining Recognition

We are delighted to announce that our Gateway to Construction programme has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award! Recognised in the Apprenticeship and Training Awards Best Workplace Readiness Scheme category, this nomination highlights the incredible success and impact of our initiative.

Designed to equip individuals aged 19 and over with essential industry skills and certifications, the Gateway to Construction programme provides a direct pathway into the construction sector. Gary Riches, Vice Principal, shared his excitement:
“We are incredibly proud to be shortlisted for this national award. This recognition reinforces our commitment to delivering high-quality, industry-focused training that not only meets employer needs but also transforms lives by opening doors to long-term careers in construction.”

Delivered by our expert trainers, in collaboration with Hartlepool College and Seymour Civil Engineering, the programme blends practical skills training with professional development to ensure participants are fully job-ready. The six-week, full-time course covers key areas such as Health and Safety, CSCS card training, NRSWA Streetworks, Excavator operation, Dumper and Ride-on Roller training.

The programme’s success has attracted Town Deal funding from Hartlepool Borough Council, allowing us to expand its reach and support even more learners. Donna King, Manager at Seymour Skills Academy, explained:
“The Gateway to Construction curriculum was specifically designed to address the growing skills gap and the challenges of an ageing workforce in the construction industry. We are passionate about creating opportunities for the long-term unemployed, disadvantaged, and hard-to-reach groups. To date, we have proudly supported over 750 learners, with 75% securing roles directly in construction and engineering.”

We eagerly anticipate the Apprenticeship and Training Awards Gala Dinner on Tuesday, 11th March 2025, at the ACC in Liverpool, where national finalists will be celebrated for their excellence in apprenticeships and training.
