Description

It is envisaged that by the end of this course of training the trainee operator will be able to answer questions on and perform the following:

  • Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities and an operator.
  • Have a working knowledge of the manufacturers handbook and be familiar with other sources of information available including relevant legislation.
  • Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions.
  • Be able to locate and identify key controls and explain their functions.
  • Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturers and legislative requirements.
  • Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for cutting or grinding machine.
  • Select suitable type of abrasive wheels and machine relative to the work being undertaken.
  • Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area and set up a safety zone.
  • Prepare the machine for use and operate machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Environmental considerations
  • Storage and transport of the abrasive wheels machine
  • Carry out all end of shift and shut down

Course Aims

The course aims to provide learners with the knowledge and practical skills to safely operate Abrasive Wheels in a Construction Environment, in line with the Awarding Body requirements.

Achievement Assessment

  1. Theory Test consisting of five questions requiring written responses and an additional 20 questions of multiple choice, relating to the safe operations as a Plant vehicle marshal in the construction industry.
    1. Operator safety and observations
    2. Use of controls
    3. Inspecting, mounting and dismounting the blades/wheels
    4. Grinding/cutting operations.
    5. Stow away and securing operations

Funding Available

AEB Funding is available for eligible learners.

Eligible learners must be:

  • Aged at least 19 on 31st August 2024
  • Reside within the Tees Valley
  • Be unemployed or employed and earn less than the wage cap of £33,210 per annum

Additionally, CITB Grant is available for eligible learners to reclaim on completion of training.
