The units delivered in this course as standard are
- LA (01) Location & avoidance of underground apparatus
- O1 (02) Signing, lighting and guarding
- O2 (03) Excavation in the highway
- O3 (04) Reinstatement & compaction of backfill materials
- O4 (05) Reinstatement of sub base & road in non bituminous materials
- O5 (06) Reinstatement of cold-lay bituminous materials
- O8 (09) Reinstatement of modular surfaces and concrete footway
Additional unit for Reinstatement of Hot Lay Bituminous Materials is all offered at an additional cost.
It is envisaged that by the end of this course of training the trainee operator will be able to answer questions on and perform the following:
- Risks associated with striking underground apparatus
- Recognising the signs of underground services and interpreting utility plans
- Using tools to locate underground structures
- Marking services ready for excavation
- An awareness of signing, lighting and guarding the workplace and the erection of temporary traffic signals
- Methods of excavation, safety measures and the use of road drills etc. and how to support utility apparatus within the excavation
- Selection and storage of excavated materials for re-use
- Placing and compaction of backfill and sub-base materials
- Laying and compaction of cold-lay bituminous materials
- Theory and Practical Assessments
