Description

The units delivered in this course as standard are

  • LA (01) Location & avoidance of underground apparatus
  • S1 (02) Monitoring Signing, lighting and guarding
  • S2 (03) Monitoring Excavation in the highway
  • S3 (04) Monitoring Reinstatement & compaction of backfill materials
  • S4 (05) Monitoring Reinstatement of sub base & road in non bituminous materials
  • S5 (06) Monitoring Reinstatement of cold-lay bituminous materials
  • S7 (09) Monitoring Reinstatement of modular surfaces and concrete footway

It is envisaged that by the end of this course of training the trainee operator will be able to answer questions on monitoring the following activities:

  • Risks associated with striking underground apparatus
  • Recognising the signs of underground services and interpreting utility plans
  • Using tools to locate underground structures
  • Marking services ready for excavation
  • An awareness of signing, lighting and guarding the workplace and the erection of temporary traffic signals
  • Methods of excavation, safety measures and the use of road drills etc. and how to support utility apparatus within the excavation
  • Selection and storage of excavated materials for re-use
  • Placing and compaction of backfill and sub-base materials
  • Laying and compaction of cold-lay bituminous materials
  • Theory and Practical Assessments

Course Aims

The course aims to provide learners with the required skills, knowledge and practical skills to monitor operative duties in compliance with the NRSWA Act 1991.

The course is intended and mandatory for anyone who may be involved in monitoring staff who are working on and adjacent to public highways.

Achievement Assessment

  1. Theory Test of multiple-choice questions to be completed and passed for each individual unit.
  2. Additionally, a practical assessment for each individual unit is to be completed.

Funding Available

AEB Funding is available for eligible learners.

Eligible learners must be:

  • Aged at least 19 on 31st August 2023
  • Reside within the Tees Valley
  • Be unemployed or employed and earn less than the wage cap of £33,210 per annum

Additionally, CITB Grant is available for eligible learners to reclaim on completion of training.
